Golden Balls aka Sweet Potato Balls

Since I’m a small kids, my grandma always bought me Golden Balls which I always called it zha dan (ē‚øå¼¹) from market. Few days ago I found the recipe online and it makes me miss this childhood snacks. Miss my late grandma a lot! So, I decided to make my own Golden Balls…

I bought all the ingredients from the market according to the recipe and start making it. Here are the ingredient and measurement:

500g Sweet Potato (supposed to buy those orangish sweet potato but I bought those yellowish one which slightly expensive but it’s very sweet)
90g Fine Sugar
1/2 tbs Salt
50g Rice Flour
30g Glutinous Rice Flour

First of all, I cut the sweet potato into small pieces and steam until soft. Smashed the soften sweet potato and add in sugar and salt. Mixed sugar and salt with the warm smashed sweet potato evenly in a pot. Then add in the rice flour and glutinous rice flour slowly into the pot. Mixed all the ingredients until it form a dough. I have added a bit of water into the mixture due to it’s a bit too dry.

Once the dough is ready, roll and shape the dough into small balls and fried it into brownish… And now it’s ready to served.

The golden balls is a bit too sweet. So next time I might need to cut down the measurement of the sugar šŸ™‚ I’m definitely gonna make it again!!

These look awfully good to me! I like that they don’t have wheat – we get way too much of that here in the USA – and I also love anything with sweet potato. Thanks for the recipe!
